Canadian education system
The Canadian education system covers primary, secondary and higher education. Education in Canada is looked after by provincial and territorial government. This may lead to slight difference between the management of education system. The grading system may vary. Canada provides free elementary and secondary education for 12 years. Education is compulsory till the age of 15 or 18 years.
Canada has around 10 provinces and three territories. Each of them has their own way of organizing education along with the general guidelines. Most children here attend government funded schools with some exceptional student who attends private schools also. Private schools are run by independent operators who must follow the government guidelines regarding education.
Some children are given education at home by their parents or tutors. Certain schools are province based only; students within that province attend the school. Normally students who belong to one province attend school in that region only but some children attend school belonging to different region or province depending on schools reputation in excelling in a certain academic area. Students attending a private school may come from many different areas. The schools may have dormitories for out-of-town and overseas students to live in.
For international students, most schools and colleges emphasis on good TOEFL or IELTS score as a proof of English competency for entry in the school. This is the basic requirement that all colleges and school demands. International students must see to it that they are receiving a good quality of education as compared to their home country. A study permit is required if students wish to study for more than six months.
