Media (MD): What inspired Kampus Landing to take the franchise route?
Suneetha (SQ): When Kampus Landing started its operations in 2005, Study Abroad coaching and consulting field was not that competitive. Our focus is to reach out to all parts of the South East Asia region and assist students in gaining admissions to the best universities worldwide. Franchising will help us to expand faster and reach out to vast markets. Our entrepreneurial spirit will help us to scale up quickly.
MD:What is the eligibility criterion for selecting the franchisee?
Suneetha (SQ): While selecting a franchisee, we look for like-minded people who have a passion for delivering quality educational solutions. Our franchisees have to be professionally qualified. Since we are in the business of training and education, it is important that franchisees are also well-qualified, evolved individuals, with a strong customer orientation.
MD: How many franchises you plan to set up and in which all cities?
Suneetha (SQ): Kampus Landing has been growing steadily over the years and plans to add around 12-15 new franchise centers every year. Having three company-owned centers, which also serve as model centers, we will partner with individuals, corporate and institutions for setting up centers all over South East Asia region.
MD: What support do you provide to your franchisees?
Suneetha (SQ): The Kampus Landing franchise model is based on intensive research and extensive collective experience in setting up and operating franchise centers. Kampus Landing provides its franchisees with a brand name, technical know-how and academic delivery methodology, marketing and advertising materials, training, placement and web centric support.
MD: What are the challenges that a franchisee usually face while running this business?
Suneetha (SQ): Franchising requires a certain level of capability and perseverance when it comes to execute a plan. One should also be good at handling the operational activities and this becomes a critical point of determining the feasibility of the franchisee in maintaining the balance between controlling costs, while not compromising on the standards of training and operations.
MD: Any advice for the young entrepreneurs?
Suneetha (SQ): As an entrepreneur, one should have an open mind while deciding to own a franchising business and must be willing enough to learn from the experts. Secondly, he should be passionate about the business he is entering into. Positive attitude and basic business management skills are the important keys to be successful. Importantly, it is necessary to seek advice from one’s accountant or lawyer while signing a franchise agreement.
MD: What are the company’s future plans?
Suneetha (SQ): We will look at opening another 12-15 centers this year and add up more services to synergize our operations.
MD: Share with us any new venture that your company has entered into?
Suneetha (SQ): We have recently launched Our Kampuses. This relates to our expertise in forging alliances with American colleges and universities and offering International pathway programs to students in India and Nepal.
